After water damage, keyboard is not working.

Camping in Seattle, my laptop got quite damp in a backpack without my realizing. It was wet for a few days, I noticed and dried it out the best I could, I opened it up and let it air dry for a day. When I booted it up that evening, the keyboard and everything worked fine. The next morning, I went through TSA, the keyboard stopped working when I got home and tried to boot it up again. I tried to continue drying it out, and it somewhat worked again for a small period, but it's stopped working once more.

Also, somewhat related, the CPU fan is locked at 100% all the time. The laptop is still usable with the touch screen and USB ports, but it sorta defeats the purpose if I can't use the keyboard.

I don't know if the keyboard on these can be replaced, but I'd be very interested if they could be.

Hi Casey, the keyboards can be replaced on these, the only trouble is finding one. I don't have any for the stealth models. It's possible that if any key is not working, it may also be board related, which does sound likely considering the cpu fan is stuck at 100%-this is caused by board issue. Sounds like the water got through the keyboard and onto the board. It's unfortunate but sounds like theres not much that can be done in this case unless you go through with component level motherboard repair and a possible keyboard replacment.

I would suggest tearing it down and checking to see how much water damage there actually is. Taking pictures to show where most of the water damage was located. If you don't have access to an ultrasonic cleaner, you could still probably soak the motherboard in 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol and clean it with a brush, same goes for the keyboard, but i would remove each key individually first to clean under each one with the alcohol and brush, then putting the keys back on once dry. You would of course need to let the alcohol evaporate, for faster evaporation from under components, I usually suggest a very low temperature oven such as below 170F or below 75C for 10 minutes or so or placing in front of a high powered fan. Then to reassemble and test, but theres a good chance there is component damage like i said, which if is the case, no amount of cleaning will solve.

As someone who tried to troubleshoot my own Razerblade Keyboard issue, the 100% fan issue is a **result** of the keyboard not working properly. If it sounds stupid, its because it is, but if you disconnect the razerblade keyboard and start it up, the cpu fans go 100%.
