Fan replacement - what has to be removed?

Hello,

I noticed that fan in my MBP is rattling quite heavily (sound like bearing are gone) and it annoys me quite a lot so I want to replace it. But when I looked at teardown guide I couldn't really tell what parts I need to remove (if any) before the fan (I hope that I can leave battery where it is)

Can anyone confirm what has to be dismantled to get to the fan?

First Apple may have an extended warranty to cover this as there have been a few reports of bad fans. I would go to an Apple Store to see what they say.

From what I see in the Teardown you only need to lift the logic board to gain access to two screws just under it and the third is accessible to remove the fan unit but you will need first remove the fan cowling (3 screws), then the logic board.

So, basically just open it, unplug the power, unscrew the fan and logic board and swap it?

Well... I can't promise it will be that easy ;-} But it's a start. Haven't opened one yet so I just don't know.

Again, this should be covered under warranty! The other factor is trying to find the replacement part will not be easy! This is such a new system Apple will likely still be the only source. It's a custom part!

I'll try to get it fixed by Apple and if I will be no go then I will try myself, found some MBP fans selling for around 35-55 pounds.
