Laptop working incredibly slow

Hello all

I bought a brand new Asus laptop from save on laptops and it was working perfectly for about 2 weeks. I have installed numerous games and an antivirus called total av but even after these it was always running fine. I have made no changes recently and barely any browsing however while playing football manager, after about 30 mins of play the laptop froze for perhaps a minute before seemingly working normally again.

Now it seems to intermittently go very slow and unresponsive. I get maybe 10 seconds of it being ok before it freezes and it is unusable and this is from the moment it boots up now. I have run a virus scan, the hard drives have plenty of free space, have run defragment software, disk clean-up etc and everything is fine. I have checked task manager and there seem to be no processes using lots of resources so I am a bit stuck

The laptop is almost unusable making things like a system restore very difficult to execute

Specs are

Windows 10

Intel i7-7700HQ 2.80GHz

8GB ram

120GB SSD

1TB HDD

Try starting in "safe mode' and see what its' performance is like.

Check startup in Task Manager to see what programs are started on boot

Try also installing malwarebytes and doing a scan. The trial version is good enough.

This sounds very much like a hard disk problem. If it was brand new you should be able to get a replacement or refund from the vendor.

But you might try Speedfan.

Under the S.M.A.R.T. tab select your hard disk in the box at the top. Review the results then click the wide "Perform an in-depth online analysis" button. This will bring up a web page showing how your results compare with other disks of the same type. It may be that neither of these show anything, but if they do you'll have something concrete to show the vendor.

I have similar issues with ASUS even on desktop, where even a tiny application like "ASUS TUF DETECTIVE" could literally bog or id say bug down a "high end desktop" and ruin an entire experience. (the issue is not entirely about ASUS though, its about the apps - no matter how tiny they are - that could really eat up resources when not optimized or if malware attacks )

I suggest you do the ff to see what's really happening (if that thing still has warranty, it might be a good idea to have them check on it if nothing listed below works):

Software:

[] run on SAFE mode (see if the overall speed improves while in this mode) and uninstall unnecessary apps.

[] use a Kaspersky Rescue disk https://support.kaspersky.com/4162 (its a linux system that disinfects your windows - if due to a malware issue)

(if you are not in espionage biz or an NSA, you have nothing to worry about the recent squabble between the US gov and Kaspersky)

[] if you've set it up to auto update the OS, then try rolling back or better a clean install of OS might be the last resort but can prove handy if nothing works (I've had tons of issues w/ WIN 10 often related to drivers etc. Also consider win7 w/c in "my opinion" is still more stable. )

Hardware (if no more warranty):

[] try removing the HDD then boot the laptop (see if anything improves).

maybe you need to reinstall windows if dos not work try to remove HDD and reinstall windows if still slow

remove ssd .
