iPhone 6 not restoring in iTunes through DFU mode

I have an iPhone 6 that I am trying to restore through iTunes in DFU mode but it is not working. When i click restore, it says "Software for this iPhone is not currently available, Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and try again". So i do have the latest version of iTunes, i made sure of it. Also my computer is running the latest version of windows 10 and there are no updates for it. I also tried to download an IPSW and hold shift and clikc restore but then that gives me another message "The iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible". I downloaded the right IPSW and i downloaded different ones for the right phone and they are all still being signed by apple, but it is not working. Please i need help restoring this phone, i dont know how to restore it through itunes without getting an error.

Try direct downloading iOS from here.

Instead of clicking "Restore", hold SHIFT while Clicking "Restore" and select the file you download from the link.

i just had this same issue while trying to repair a 6s. i get the same error message "software for this iphone not currently available". Have the latest version of iTunes, and the latest version of 3U, which basically tells me it can't detect the device type, and doesn't know which version of iOS goes with the device.

The device itself has a black screen even when powered on, and shows no other signs of issues other than a standard cracked screen. It has never been repaired or opened before today.

Any suggestions?

Just to clarify, this is NOT a computer or iTunes problem, as we repair hundreds of iPhones and iPads at this repair center every day, so all of our machines are up to date with the latest software and running correctly. Connecting this device to any other machine in the building yields the same result.

Obviously to me, there's something going on with the device and it can't be recognized properly.
