My old Machine has started making very weak coffee...

I have had my machine since aprox. jan 2007, and it has been making very weak espresso for about six months now. I have taken the screen out and cleaned it, as well as run vinegar through it multiple times. The vinegar stopped the steamer from leaking but the coffee is still weak. I do not think that it comes out as hot as it used to either. Although i do not have a thermometer, this is leading me to believe that the burner has gone bad... the lights still come on like normal and the steamer works great.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Your weak coffee could be due to the machine not getting hot enough, which is usually caused by calcium scale buildup on the heating element (the "burner"). Vinegar will not help this, and you should not be putting it through your machine at all as it can damage the pump and seals. I'd recommend descaling with a citric-acid based cleaner, such as Dezcal or Durgol.

Should i remove the heating element to clean it? or simply run a descaling solution through it...

Taking apart the boiler isn't necessary, running a descaling cycle is usually adequate. You may want to run more than one though; it's normally recommended you descale every 3 months and you've got 4 years worth of buildup in there.

If you've never descaled your coffee pot and there is a heavy build up and/or you have hard water. You may want to run part of a "cycle" through it. Then shut it down, unplug it if necessary, and let it sit over night with the solution in it. Then in the morning run a normal cycle of the solution through the coffee pot and rinse as directed by the product.

I have this issue with my Verizmo machine it’s 2 months old. I descaled, rinse before brewing coffee. I’ve used 9 pods this am trying to figure it out. Coffee or water is steaming hot, so I don’t think that’s the issue. Help!
