I need help knowing what I need to fix since my BRAKE light on my dashboard is on after I fixed the brake hose on the drivers side and replaced both front and back brake pads.

Thank you.

Have you checked the handbrake?

tarafından

Have you checked your fluid level, as that is what the brake light usually represents in older cars.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the long reply but it turns out I fixed it by accidentally pressing the brakes too hard and then the BRAKE light in the dashboard shut off. Now whenever I start my car the light turns off.

Thank you guys for the help. I'll keep your answers as future references jist in case. Thanks again.

I have a 1996 Toyota T100

My dash brake light was on, constantly, since I replaced my front disk brakes completely - all new parts!

I fixed the problem by remembering a stupid fix I had read about a few years ago!

The fix?

Believe it or not... it was due to my brake's master cylinder reservoir being filled up to the MAX line! REALLY?!

So I drew out the brake fluid from the reservoir until it was half way between the MAX line and the MIN fill line. Problem solved!

The brake light will also come on and remain on if your emergency brake cable is stretch out. If you readjust it or install new emergency brake cable then the light will go off.

Sorry Im late to the party @captainsnowball Its been a very busy week . Check the fluid level. Did you bleed the system after you replaced what Im assuming is the front flex hose . Have you just pumped the brake pedal a few times to get fluid pressure up . That will also often cause the light to go out . If the brake fluid is burnt and really dark looking it can also trip the sensor on the master cylinder . If this is the case then flushing the system is required . Just some ideas to kick around Hope this helps

Hi Jim,

I did everything you said and it hasn't gone out at all. I have bleed the fluid twice already and nothing. Also, I have done the refill of the brake fluid as well. As far as the pressure goes it seems pretty okay when I use the brakes.

@vladsc50 , The brake light in the instrument cluster will light up when the balance of pressure from the front brake system to the rear brake system. In the lines leading from the master cylinder, there is a pressure differential valve.

PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL VALVE

The pressure differential switch is connected to the brake warning light. The switch is actuated by movement of the switch valve. The switch monitors fluid pressure in the separate front/rear brake hydraulic circuits. A decrease or loss of fluid pressure in either hydraulic circuit will cause the switch valve to shuttle to the low pressure side. The movement of the switch valve lights the brake warning lamp.

Once the pressure equals out the switch will return to normal. This will probably require bleeding the front and back brake hydraulic circuits. Be careful not to let the fluid in the master cylinder run out when bleeding, as that will introduce air into the system at the very beginning and will be very difficult to remove. When you are done bleeding the light should go out. If not, the pressure differential valve may need replacing. Hope this helps.

Hi Eric,

So basically do a bleeding on my brakes to have the same pressure value? Because when I was pressing on the brake pedal for testing the pressure wouldn't stay tight. It will gradually go down for a bit and when I would press the the, brake pedal again it would catch tight pressure again.

tarafından

Yes. The reason it gradually goes down is that there is some air somewhere. A good bleeding should take care of it.

Hi Aiden,

I checked my car to see if the parking brake is off and it is since I pulled the handle several times.

I forgot to mention my car is exactly 1992 Toyota Camry V6 LE with a 3VZ-FE engine.

The brake light will turn on and remain on if your parking/emergency brake cable is stretch out. If you readjust the tension on it and/or install new parking/emergency brake cable then the light will go off.
