iPod classic stuck in disk mode and itunes not recognizing it

Hi,

My ipod classic 80 GB stuck in the disk mode. It is being recognised by the computer but not by the ITunes. I am not sure what the actual problem is. Can anybody help me out?? I already tried the different ways to recover the same like formatting the disk but my pc not able to format it. Also tried the solution given on the Apple site. but not having any luck :(. Can anybody help me out??

i had the same problem. i was able to put it in diskmode after that sad icon and so, but the thing is i plugged it in my pc and itunes could not recognized it. i tried formatting it too but it was no use!:( what do i do?

Unfortunately it seems like you have a bad hard drive, the iPod classic hard drives are very finicky and will seem to be recognized even if they are totally unsalvageable.

iPod hard drives can be purchased on the cheap through various online retailers, including e*cough*Bay and ifixit.

Necro edit: flash is a thing for iPods now! Check out Tarkan's iFlash adapters.

+ Agree with you on that one. I think the give away here is that the drive can not be formatted. Just had a whole bunch of those errors happen. New HDD will usually be the solution.
