Screen is half dead. About 20% of the screen is black

I was using my MacBook when suddenly 20% of the screen on the right side stopped working, and it seems to be turned off. I already reset the SMC and the PRAM, but it still doesn't work. If I plug my and HDMI cable to my MacBook the image that I see on the external monitor works fine. Another weird thing is that as I type I see the screen flickering sometimes. What do you guys think that the problem is?

Did you have to replace this? The exact same thing happened to mine.

Not good ;-{

The display lost its vertical data lines on that part of the screen. This should be covered under Apple warranty. Either the ribbon cable or the display its self has failed.

Dan, my computer is out of warranty. I am assuming replacing the ribbon cable is cheaper. If so, how can I test to make sure the cable is the issue and not the display?

Cable and LCD are bonded and can't be separated! There is no way to fix other than part replacement (complete display assembly)

To prove it just connect an external display to your system if the image is good on it you've proved the issue is the internal display alone.
