upgrade 800mhz to 867mhz in iBook g4

is that a possibility so I can run leapord?10.5.6 was on a book I purchased thru eBay, but after maybe 2 weeks it wouldn't start! How the seller got it on there is Quite puzzling. It cost me what I bought it for to fix it because the Apple Auth. Service people could locate a Tiger CD- to clean install, everything was dvd.

Yes and no. If you think this is replaced by flipping a socket, no. It's soldered. If you change the board, yes.

My advice? Sell it for retro games and legacy PPC applications. Not worth it to do the conversion.

Yes you will need to upgrade the ram to I gig just for leapord to run

No, sorry. The only way to upgrade this would be to replace the entire motherboard (pricey!) as the CPU and motherboard are all one piece on most Macs.

If you are still looking to upgrade to Leapord I did that. iBook g4, 1gig ram

Leapord 10.5.6 , 160 gig hd, 12 inch 800 mhz. Smooth move runs great

I have a external DVD player and I bought new Leapord install disc

sorry for the looong delay in comment , I only have 700+ ram, but I was told 10.5 need at least 867mhz to run that system on iBook G4 800, is your book still running. I saw a free app called leapordAssist to fool the 800 into believing it was a faster processor, Are you aware of this? I used Disktools pro to check the laptop for problems, that is when it dicovered the two didn't match up and would not reboot. Any thoughts before I buy a external DVD drive, and what brand. I don't have any bootable 10.4.11 disks but I do have 10.5.6 DVD disks?
