High Pitched noise from this Display – Is there a way to fix it?

I’ve had this display (Samsung 34” Wide screen) for 3 years, and now it has started to emit a high pitched noise. It’s so uncomfortable that I can’t work properly. I also have tinitus, which makes it worse… :(

Can someone please advise me what to do? Googling about this, high pitched noises are common for monitors (I also had it on an older display, but it vanished when I set the brightness on max). One solution is to apply a lot of glue on some of the components on the motherboard.

My question is: Where on the motherboard should I apply this?

It’s probably easy to open the monitor, even though I can’t find any guides on the net…

PLEASE HELP – My brain is about to explode! :((

Today, after a month with this problem, I have chat with Samsung and they made me do a procedure, disconnect the power and the HDMI, then press the power button for 60 seconds, power it back and the noise is gone. Incredible

Hi. What you are experiencing is a form of coil whine. Try messing with the monitor settings in the included monitor on screen controls. You mentioned adjusting brightness on a previous monitor. Did you have any luck adjusting the brightness on this monitor?

Here is a decent guide about coil whine:

http://www.silentpcreview.com/stop_lcd_w...

It seems that some folks have tried varnishes or silicone to dampen the vibrations inductors make. I have not tried this myself, so I don’t know how well it works. From what it seems, you may not be able to completely get rid of the coil vibrations by using a varnish or silicone, they will just be reduced.

I would try fiddling with the monitor for a bit. Some folks reported the noise going away when they switched to a different input cable / input source.

It looks like your monitor has multiple inputs and an external power brick. I would try switching to a different hdmi port and moving the power brick as far away as possible. It may be your power brick that is emitting that harsh noise, and not the monitor itself. Try another power brisk. You can try listening to the power brick when unplugged from the monitor to see if it emitts that specific noise. This is not the most scientific test, as the brick is not under load when unplugged from the monitor, so it may not produce a coil whine at all. If it does, find a replacement / RMA from samsung.

Good luck!

Thanks for the answer!

I have tried all possible descent different settings, with no change.

The inputs are limited to HDMI since that is what my USB-C hub has. Maybe I can borrow something else just to try though.

My monitor also started making a high pitched annoying sound. Under Menu/Sound/ there was a setting for TV sound on mine, when I turned this off, the monitor stopped making a noise immediately. Hope this helps.

I read all above, then just reset the monitor to fabric (default) Noice is no more. I have an Alienware 25. Hope this helps.

I was facing the same issue on my Samsung monitor and was able to solve using the following:

In the monitor settings change the response time to “Standard”. This worked like a charm.

Another thing which was able to solve it temporarily was to turn on Energy saver mode to “high” but after the first step, nothing else is required.

Cheers!

I don’t have a Samsung monitor, but I had the same issue with my Acer one. I solved it by going to the monitor settings and setting the audio to 0. Hope that helped!

iiyama monitor here. Just fixed it. Apparently one of the monitor connected USB devices got faulty. Whenever the keyboard touches the mousepad the noise from within the monitor is present... So, remember to check your monitor connected appliances aswell.

I had this on my cheap C32JG5x monitors, for me it was having them set to 144hz and the response time set to fastest that caused the high pitched whine, lowering it to 120hz and setting the response time to normal fixed it for me.
