Bad memory, can't find where all of the memory is located.

My Asus Q534U has 12GB of memory. I’ve been experiencing memory errors in Windows 10. I ran the Windows Memory Test program and it indicates there is indeed some bad memory. Does not show any useful information (typical Microsoft). I opened the LT and pulled the 4GB memory and reran the test. It still shows a memory error, so I’m assuming the 4GB memory is OK. Where is the other 8GB of memory? I can’t find it….

ASUS now integrates RAM into the motherboard. Pull your removable chip and see if you get the same issue.

In my original post I stated that I pulled the 4GB memory and still got the error.

Same issue with my Q524UQK. The new motherboards cost an arm and a leg on my laptop. I don’t know of a way to Replace the soldered on RAM sadly

Hi @ zack mercer

Just curious re your model as this ram supplier shows that the laptop can handle 24GB of ram of which only 8GB is soldered to the board and that there are 2 slots as well so presumably it means 2 x 8GB removable + 8GB non removable

At 11:45+ minutes into this video you can see the slot, (doesn’t look like 2 slots though). Admittedly it is for a Q524UQ and not a UQK but hopefully they're the same. Even having only one would double the capacity. Worth a look maybe?

Yeah, i replaced the removable ram but it is the soldered on ram that is messing up on mine. 8 gb soldered on, +4 additional gb of ram when i bought my laptop. And i also replaced hard drive with an ssd just in case that was causing the trouble. But still crashes every time i try to install updates. I increased that +4 gb ram to a 16gb ram hoping that it would work but it still would not due to faulty soldered on RAM

@ zack mercer

If it only occurs on updates, have you have verified that it is the onboard ram that is faulty and not something else?

Try removing the ram module so that only the onboard ram is used and then run a free memory test program that can run without Windows needing to be loaded.
