MacBook won't turn on. Faint magsafe green light. Troubleshooting?
Hi. I have an A1502 2015 Macbook pro, with a logic board version of 820-4924-A.
After water got on it, it wouldn’t turn on. I’m trying to narrow down the issue.
I took the logic board out. When I hook it up to the charger there is only a very faint green light on the magsafe connector.
I was expecting to see 18.5 volts on pin 1 and 2 of the J7000 jumper coming in from the magsafe board, but I only see 16 volts. Is that normal? Maybe this indicates I need to replace the magsafe board, or the charger?
There’s no voltage on the output pin of Q7010, or R7020 pin 1 that it leads to. Q7010 pin 5 source is 16 volts, and pin 4 gate is 14.5 volts. Is this the expected configuration?
I understood from another thread that Q7010 is a P channel mosfet, and needs pin 4 gate to go low, to pass the voltage through from pin 5 source. Is 14.5 volts low enough? Or does this indicate that Q7010 needs to be replaced, or that the zener diode D7010 broke and isn’t allowing the voltage to go low?
So my theories are, charger, magsafe board, or Q7010 area. I don’t have easy access to a known good charger. Is there a way I can narrow it down before I invest in fixing one or other of them?
Cheers.
