laptop turns off when charger is unplugged

hello community

i have an Asus vivobook X542UN

i took it to a repair shop to upgrade my ssd (so this happened after it was opened) and now the laptol only runs on the charger and turns off immediately if i unplug it

the battery is almost new and it ran like a charme before it was opened

the repair shop wouldn't take responsibility for what happened so im trying to fix this myself now, what might be the problem and how do i fix it ?

thank you

Can you find any solution? I have same problem

It turned out that they simply fried the battery somehow, most likely a short circuit.

Only possible solution is to replace the battery

@alsetalokin

make sure that everything was connected properly and that the battery is charged. Use a multimeter and check that the AC adapter works properly. Let us know what you find after you check all that.

There is a two white metal screws near under the RAM cover, One of them makes contact on two tracks of main board and it is must be there to run on battery!

Thank you veryyyyy much, that is exactly my problem from 3 years ago, when I gave my device to a repair shop to add a SSD, they broke one of these screws and used glue instead (!!!). therefore, its connection to the aluminum of the keyboard was disconnected, and I find it today :(

Hi, I don't suppose you could be more specific about those two screws, or provide a picture maybe? I am not getting any charging at all on an old Asus X550LA which I've just performed some surgery on - I'm trying to ascertain whether I've screwed something up or if the battery is just toast, or what. I'm running LinuxMint and system report is able to communicate with the battery, apparently, insofar as giving me the metadata as follows:

ID-1: BAT0 charge: 0 Wh (0.0%) condition: 34.4/38.5 Wh (89.3%) volts: 14.8 min: 14.8

model: ASUSTeK X550A26 serial: N/A status: Charging

But it's been pegged at 0% all along. I don't recall a specific cable connection that I would have disconnected between the motherboard and the battery charging port, so I can't imagine what has changed. I did have to re-solder the wires (3 blacks and 3 reds) to the power jack, they were broken off as a result of a drop apparently (I replaced the bottom cover as well). Just not sure what to look for here.

FYI, there is a Windows app that will give you a lot of info RE the battery

Run this in a CMD or powershell window. The window must be run as administrator

powercfg /batteryreport

It will tell you where the report was saved.

Well I will suggest you the following:

  1. Change Advanced Power settings.
  2. Run the Power Troubleshooter.
  3. Hard/Power reset your laptop.
  4. Update the battery drivers using a good driver updater software .
  5. Update the BIOS.

This is a hardware issue and these software solutions can't solve the problem.
