What could it be that makes this iMac not being able to turn on?

Hi,

I just bought that iMac for 20€. I assembled it and tried to turn it on. Here’s what I can tell you. The power button is broken. I tried shorting the cables to turn it on. All I get is the LED #1 to light up, never the second. I don’t have the PCIE SSD, no HDD and no internal display. I could just hook a HDD up. Every other part is there. The power supply is looking good and the logic board like day 1. What should I try to do?

So you gave us the end of the story... How about giving us the beginning. You bought a box of parts which you then assembled?

The more details might give us a clue on what's happening here.

Yup, found someone selling that. A box of iMac parts, all the 2012 27" model. He sold it for 20€ so I picked it up. I assembled all of the parts which are the logic board, CPU, RAM, power supply, speakers and fans into the iMac's housing and hooked it up to power. I must admit, the CPU pins looked a bit bent but it looks useable under the microscope and even I tried to bent it back in place. The only LED I'm able to see light up, is the first. Should I just dump the logic board or can a socket be fixed?

Oh Boy! You got a big project here!

Do you know why the system was in this state? It’s likely one or two of the parts are damaged.

Some how you’ll need to test out the parts to see if they are good individually. You’ll need a second iMac which you can use to validate the parts (Power supply, Logic Board & display) Once you know you have good parts it should be easy to get to the next part of assembling the system back together.

Hey, me again. So I got it to turn on now. Turns out the CPU socket pins still needed some bending with the credit card this time. I got it to turn on. It didn't accept my RAM since it has 1333 MHz instead of 1600. Does anyone mind if I leave this topic up if any more problems occur or should I close it and open a new one for every new problem?

Best to close this Question out and then open a fresh one.
