Top half of iPad touch screen unresponsive when charging

Sometimes when I’m charging my device, the top half of my iPad becomes unresponsive while the bottom half (the side near the charging port) works just fine. However, when I unplug the cord, the top half starts working again.

So far, I have tried to fix it by updating, reinstalling iOS from iTunes, and using a different, cord and brick, both of which I got from the Apple Store. None of this has worked. Any ideas on what’s wrong and how to fix it? Thanks

Notes:

  • I use either a 29w Apple brick with the USB C to Lightning cord or a 12w brick with a USB to Lightning (All of which are Apple or MFi certified)
  • I have tried restarting the iPad while charging which works for a bit but starts doing it after 5 minutes of charging or so
  • The problem stops when I am done charging.

I also have this same exact issue. It’s really annoying as well. It usually happens to me when my device gets hot from playing games or using it for a long time and then charging it. I think the heat radiating from the device makes it difficult for the screen to tell when I’m using it.

I had a similar problem with my iPhone but changing the cable solved my issue, so according to my own experience and what you already did I think you need to clean your charging port with the appropriate product and if that doesn’t work then you should try to clean the motherboard.

I’ll try cleaning the charging port. Don’t think I can get to the motherboard. Did you use isopropyl alcohol to clean the port?

I have the same issue, top half of the screen becomes unresponsive to random touches when the lightning cable is plugged in. Oddly enough, when I unplug the cable the issue is still there. With the lightning cable unplugged, If I then press the power button to put the iPad to sleep and then wake it up, the screen is responsive again.

The wire works fine with my iPhone 8. Only my iPad shows this issue.

It’s not software as the issue has been there since iOS 12 and now iOS 13.

I have a problem with my iPad Air screen is erratic when charging. Seems to be a grounding issue. Make sure you touch the back while charging and see if it helps with your screen
