The iPad Air 1 and iPad 5th gen use different home buttons, they do not work vice-versa as I found out the hard way.
Make sure the replacement screen either comes with the button or transfer the old button to the new screen (make sure when doing transfer that you clean old adhesive well and apply good adhesive (Tesa 4695 / 61395 or similar double sided tape) for the metal bracket before installing).

I purchased iPad gen5 digitizer which comes with home button, and home button does not work on iPad air
now I need to buy digitizer +home button just for iPad air
