I uninstalled a kext from Snagit because I thought it might be the cause.

What is your macOS version presently? Did you run the on board diagnostics?

Did you try wiping the drive (reformat it & installing a fresh copy of macOS)?

I am running 10.15.1 (catalina) I haven to done a refresh. I am planning on doing so. I have reset my NVRAM and SMC. This random shutdowns carried over from 10.14 but I still had snag it installed back then.

The best thing here is to create a USB OS installer drive to redo the drive. Of course make a TimeMachine backup of your user accounts, apps & data so you can restore them later.

Catalina is still a bit buggy! So make sure you apply all of the updates afterwards or just go back the Mojave for now.

You will want to boot up under it using the Option key to enter into the Startup Manager

Then delete all of the partitions via Disk Utility and then reformat the drive to GUID with APFS file system. Then re-install macOS.

I tried a full wipe/format etc and does not fix the problem. -128 can be memory or battery from my research. I have done a battery check, memory check, and hd test I had a fault on my hard disk but was able to repair that. my battery is only charging to 60 percent off its capacity, and ram checks seem all good. so for me its likely a battery or power fault. will take to apple store to see if they can give me a more definate result

@Michael Walsh - Did you boot up under the external boot drive? If you don't you won't fix the V-RAM container which is where the issue is. APFS is a radically different architecture from HFS+ Which is why you need to nuke the drive fully. If you run Disk Utility from the recovery partition then you won't do a full reformat.
