Why is my screen not coming on?
I see that the power light is on but the screen is black like it's not on. Please help if not should I just trash it??

What is the model number of the laptop?
If you think that the laptop is booting into Windows (is the HDD light flashing) try connecting an external monitor to the laptop and check if you get a display showing on it.
Don't forget to press the appropriate function key (or keys) to switch the display to the external monitor. It varies so check the user guide for your model which to use.
if the laptop has a HDMI port, then even a TV can be used as an external monitor as long as it has HDMI inputs and you have a HDMI cable with the appropriate connectors to connect the two together.
With the laptop on you could also try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen to check if you can detect an image at all. It willbe very faint so try this in a darkened room to help see if itis there or not.
If you can detect an image you have a backlight problem
