Front right USB-C port not working

I can’t get the front right USB-C port of my late 2016 MBP15 with touch bar to work. Connecting peripherals to the port is not working, and also charging via the port is not working. All other ports, including the back right port, are working.

I have been to the Apple Store for analysis and they thought the right USB-C board was faulty. Replacing it would be cheap but would cost >7 days. Therefore I replaced the board myself, to no avail. Nothing changed (on the plus side: I also didn’t break anything).

Things I tried:

  • Flipping the cable
  • Using other USB cables
  • Resetting the SMC
  • Resetting the NVRAM
  • First aid on the disk (from recovery mode)
  • Testing the port while in recovery mode (to make sure it’s not caused by some weird software)
  • Replacing the ports (this part: MacBook Pro Retina (A1706 & A1707 Late 2016-2017) USB-C Board)

Does anyone have another idea I could try? Thanks!

Did you find the problem or did you replace the logic board?

Didn't find the problem, didn't replace the logic board... Think I'll just live with it until I replace the MacBook.

Sadly, this is starting to sound like a bad component on the logic board around the Thunderbolt 3 controller chip

Double check the connector interfaces on the both the port & logic board make sure nothing is damaged.

Thanks for your reply! Unfortunately the port board is new so I'm afraid it's indeed the logic board that's broken. Probably not worth it to replace it...
