Swapping 4th and 3rd generation key clips

I’m looking to replace two butterfly clips (hinges) on my MacBook Pro Retina Touch Bar 2019 (for the B-key and return-key). Unfortunately replacement hinges for this keyboard is extremely scarce at this moment.

Does anyone know if I can use a 2nd or 3rd generation key clip?

I believe the only change between 3rd and 4th generation is simply the material used and between 2nd and 3rd only a silicone membrane was added.

Why are you fighting this?

You do realize Apple has an extended warranty program for all butterfly keyboard issues: Keyboard Service Program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro

Just get your self to an Apple Store and be done with it!

My client is aware of this but wants to fix the two keys he broke himself in fear of getting rejected for the keyboard service program haha. But very good point nonetheless

@faloude Don't volunteer that and they'll probably let it slide if it's passable. They just want to get these repairs over with with the failure rate. Push hard enough when it keeps happening and you'll probably get a 16" Pro.

The geniuses probably are tired of this too.

@faloude - If you have the system why don't you act as your customers agent getting it to Apple for them. I've done that a few times (with their permission).

Basically, I tell them let me try and if I can't get them to fix things then we'll work out how to get your keyboard fixed.

I've done that twice and both times it was easy! The genius just wrote it up and off it went! I had marked the uppercase with a mark to see what they did in both cases the uppercase was replaced.
