we had a similar issue recently (different car but maybe the idea is the same) if you look beneath the brake pedal follow it up the "arm/lever" you may see a little push switch,it is depressed by the brake lever/arm not the pedal. ours was broken but the trigger part was still attached. so no matter how much brake, no contact was being made, hence no brake light. Park brake worked...
