Why is GE cafe dishwasher not cleaning dishes

Here is the issue and driving me nuts!

I have a GE cafe dishwasher and dishes come out dirty. The thing can run for 4 hours and still dirty. Had first repairman tell me that its not getting hot water. I have a tankless hot water system (which is on the roof). My neighbors all have the same dishwasher and tankless heater and have no issue. I had GE repairman come also and he tested the water during cycles. The first few it was colder than it should be and heated up later cycles but no where near what the faucet right next to it is getting (I think faucet gets to 105 or so but dishwasher had 67 first cycle and eventually did get to 95). He now thinks something else must be going on and may not be hot water given he was able to get it to 95 degrees.

I have no idea what’s causing this. I have spent $200 already calling repair guys and no where nearer a solution. Anyone have ideas on why it may not be getting hot water or what’s really going on. Have read different things online but don’t know for sure and not sure why neighbors don’t seem to have that issue if its tankless water heater. Help!

A temperature of 95*f is not hot enough. The dishwasher detergent needs the water temperature to be at least 120*f for the chemicals to work properly. It even tells you on the detergent box. Running the kitchen sink hot water until the water is hot before you start your dishwasher will insure that the first fill is hot. If your only getting 102*f water then you need to adjust the temperature in your hot water heater to at least 120*f. This is a recommended setting for hot water heaters. You won’t be scalded at 120*.

There are several reasons why a dishwasher won’t clean dishes but the first check when troubleshooting is verifying that the water is hot enough for the detergent to do it’s job. Your water temperature is way too low to clean the dishes. Adjust your water heater temperature and you’ll notice a huge difference.

I have the setting at 120 for the tankless water heater, which is the max it lets me put it at. The water in the faucet measured 105 and by time it got to dishwasher it was 92-95 (when we ran the sink and then turned on the dishwasher). There is a hose so maybe 5-6 ft more for it to travel so not sure why it dropped off about 10+ or so degrees. I’m not sure how to get it to be hotter in first cycles - even if I run the faucet beforehand. And neighbors not having issue (not sure if somehow their gets more hot water first cycles - I guess I can see if they will test that for me).

Your issue is in your water heater and not the D/W. It doesn’t matter water temperature your neighbors have, your temperature isn’t correct. Sediment will collect in the water tank, this will cause heating issues. You could have a failing thermostat or any number of issues with the heater. I’d suggest having someone who is qualified to work on tankless water heaters look at yours. If it’s tempature is set for 120*f you should have water that is 120*f. Since your water isnt 120*f then the heater isn’t heating the way it should. The tank fills with cold water as the hot water is being used. The cold water is being heated as it enters the tank. The further the hot water has to travel, the more this effects the water temperature, especially if the pipes are cold. The first fill in the D/W will loose heat to warming the D/W tub. The D/W will fill several times while washing. By the time the soap dispenser opens, the tub will be good and hot and the water temp should be 120*f to properly activate the chemicals in the detergent. @magicia9

Many dishwashers just do not work with tankless water heaters. I’ll know more when I have your exact model. Thanks for the phone call but this needs some study to really give you a good answer. Check with a couple of your neighbors are see if they have the same washer brand and model that you do. I also want to get @ladytech in on this one as she is the real expert.

We just bought the Café™ Dishwasher Drawer CDD420P2TS1, and the dishes are not coming out clean. I've tried all cycle types and varying drying settings. I ensured I did not overload the dishes and did a pre-rinse in the sink before loading. I've tried it with powder detergent (Cascade) and also tried it with the Cascade platinum pods in the silverware rack. I wonder if it is the water temperature due to the fact we have a tankless water heater that seems to take about 2 minutes to get hot water to the kitchen sink (which is next to the dishwasher). Thoughts?

I have read all the above testimonials!

I hate this 2-3 year old Dishwasher and a matching Cafe oven!

So my water temp at the Kitchen Sink is 126*F!

So that’s not my Problem! I have used Finish and Cascade Platinum Plus - same results!

So I set the Washer controller to “Pots” 4:24 Presoak +Sanitize, Hi-Temp Wash, Upper &Lower Wash Zones, Bottle Jets, Normal Dry!

So Much for energy conservation! Thank You CCP!

FYI- I pre rinsed everything!

Set both Upper and Lower washer arms at 12:00 to the front!

I checked five times in the 4:24 and neither washer arm moved !

This thing will be on the curb as soon as I decide on a Meilie, Bosch, or Kitchen Aid!
