My MacBook air serial number is missing

so i just bought a secondhand macbook air early 2015 and in about this mac my serial number says ˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇˇ; how can i fix this ??? please help there is no apple store in my country.

Nima,

Sometimes the Serial Number can disappear upon certain replacements to a MacBook, like a logic board replacement. However, I’m mostly concerned about the hardware configuration and I want to help you confirm that your hardware accurately being displayed.

Go into Terminal and run this command:

ioreg -l | awk '/IOPlatformSerialNumber/ { print $4; }'

See if it prints the serial number. Additionally, you can download Coconut Battery which displays the Serial Number. Go here to download it.

From another forum: “If that doesn't return anything, then you'll likely need to re-serialize your board, which would require Apple's Blank Board serializer, which is normally only available to Apple and authorized repair centers. You may want to try calling around to a few around you just to see if any are willing to do that for you.”

this is what it showed, i guess there is nothing i can do considering that there is no apple store or authorized repair center in my country. thank you for your help

Hi Nima,

I had your same issue; I actually found online the Apple's Blank Board serializer and I was able to re-serialize my mac that after some hardware changes (not the logic board but SSD/RAM) forgot its serial no.

The serial number of your mac is printed somewhere on the logic board, so you'll need to open your mac to find it out in case you don't have at hand.

BE AWARE that it's a risky task; I did it just because I wanted to be able to use again iMessage/Facetime - otherwise the rest was already working fine.
