Repair MacBook Pro 2013 with broken SSD

So I have the opportunity to buy a MacBook Pro Early 2013 from a friend, for 200$.

the Mac has a broken SSD, according to a tech support he took it some years ago (the Mac only was used two years, and he only used for university’s work). I saw that I can change the SSD easily, and I was thinking about buying the Samsung EVO 970, with a Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME adaptor, and then I would simply install a new software downloading by internet connection. Now my question is, should it would be enough, or the Mac can request something like the EFI? If so how can I unlock it? Could appears other inconvenient?

Before buying it, I would hook up an external Drive and boot from it and run disk utilities to confirm that it is the drive. Also do not try to adapter a drive built for PCs they just don’t behave well. Take a look at the available drives at OWC https://eshop.macsales.com that made for Macs, you’ll regret it otherwise.

To do it I just have to connect a External Hard Disk, and see if it’s boots? Or how can I do it?

You need to attempt a boot from an external source with a Mac operating system on it.

Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.8.2 (12C3103) Maximum MacOS: Current*

Once you have says a bootable flash drive, power the machine on and hold down the Option key and select your external drive. If it boots then the issue is probably isolated to the internal drive. If it fails to boot, you may have other issues. But at least you should be able to discern if the display works, that alone is worth the $200 as a part you can sell on eBay.
