Replace keyboard with a A1342 keyboard

Hi!

I have a faulty keyboard on a A1278 early 2011. I have a white Macbook A1342 in parts and I wonder if I could replace the keyboard from the A1342 and put it in the A1278? The A1342 was attached with glued, unlike the keyboard in the A1278 which is attached with 50+ screws or something. The A1342 keyboard has holes as the same place, but the holes are more rectangular than the A1278, from the pictures I’ve seen I think the screws will fit, but I’m not 100%.

So if it fits I hope I can place the backlight from the A1278 on top of the A1342 keyboard. What do you think, possible?

The correct keyboard MacBook Pro Unibody (A1278) Keyboard

The A1342 keyboard is part of the uppercase MacBook Unibody (A1342) Upper Case and is not black!

Are you thinking of this keyboard used in the alum Unibody MacBook? MacBook Unibody (A1278) Upper Case (Non-Backlit)?

I really think its just smarter getting the correct part! Follow this guide to get you mostly there: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 Upper Case Replacement

There are a few steps you can jump over like the display Steps 37 ~ 42 as well as the trackpad Steps 44 ~ 51.

Carefully peel up the back cover sheet a little acetone using a small brush can help loosen heavy glued areas. Just use a little! As you don’t want it to damage the parts below.

You’ll then need to pull up the backlight and then the 50+ screws to release the keyboard.

Hi Dan! I was thinking of the keyboard in the Macbook Unibody (A1342). I have successfully taken apart the keyboard from the upper case, so I was thinking that I could put it in the Macbook Pro Early 2011.

As Dan suggest you should buy the replacement A1278 keyboard. It's an affordable part that you can find everywhere. Removing the A1342 keyboard is a hassle. The keyboard is fixed to the frame with plastic rivets and access to the kb is not easy, there's a plastic cover glued over it.

Hi! Yeah I know, but the thing is that I already done it! It was a hassle, but it was the only part in the broken A1342 that wasn't broken, so I figured, why not! So do you think it will fit in the A1278 Macbook Pro? I will have to use the backlight from the A1278, but that should be fine, as it's not broken.

Just not the same! The scan won't work correctly. I'm a bit confused you had replaced it already? Then you have either a bad keyboard (used?) or you have a logic board keyboard connector issue.

Haha, nah, I have taken out the keyboard from the A1342 Macbook, that's it. It was just an idea, to take the white keyboard and then replace the white keys with the black ones from the broken A1278. But you seem certain that's a bad idea? Not a chance it will work?
