Features not working after replacing screen assembly

Hi there,

I recently replaced my MBP 2019 16” screen assembly with a genuine new part. It works, including the camera.

However 3 features do not work. The true tone feature for the display, the ambient light sensor and the backlight for the keyboard. All other features work as expected.

Would anyone have any ideas/experience around this? I fear it is due to the T2 ship intentionally degrading functionality.

Where did you get the part?

Aliexpress. I'm confident it is an authentic part though, it is identical in every way to my old assembly. System information output is also the same.

The backlight on the keyboard works in Windows 10, but not in OSX (dual boot via Bootcamp).

The only anomaly is that Windows 10 doesn't detect the light sensor either. Not sure if there's a specific connector for that I've missed.

Your display came off the assembly line before it was programed which is why its not working. You’ll need to live with it as Apple won’t set the programing in the display so the T2 will allow it to work. All they will do is replace the display and charge you for it!

Give Apple a big Thank You! Making a less repairable system!

For now I would return the screen to get your money back, put the old screen on and visit an Apple Store.

The other option is finding a recycled system which you can acquire its display if its in good shape (presently thats not likely to be easy as your system is just too new).

i bought a screen from Aliexpress for my A2289 and the camera doesn’t work. I put back the OEM one and still doesn’t work. I did the SMC, PRAM and reinstalled OS. Camera still doesn’t work.

I have exactly the same issues following screen replacement.

Interestingly - keyboard illumination works inside Win 10 boot camp!

I have a macbook M1 pro A2485 with a broken screen. I was looking on aliexpress for screens, but reading/viewing the possible issues I doubt if this is a good idea. Would it be an option to only replace the LCD, lot more work but, might be bypassing some of the common issues? Curious on your thoughts. Thanks in advance
