My engine won't turn off after starting

I have a Briggs and Stratton 23hp Vanguard that starts and runs perfectly but does not swith off when the key is returned to the off position. Can anyone please help?

Hi,

You may have a faulty switch.

Here’s a link that shows how to test the switch in a small engine. Scroll down to testing and replacing a stop switch. I realize that your setup may be different but the principle is the same.
