Are LCDs interchangeable between SM-T710, SM-T713, SM-T715 etc.?
Trying to fix the battery in a Galaxy Tab S2 8.0, I broke the LCD. I knew this was a risk, so, some you win, etc. I followed the iFixit Guide, but some blob of glue remained in the middle somewhere as I lifted the glass on the side away from the ribbon, and the LCD screen itself cracked (though the outer glass remains intact). This one seemed to have a lot more glue than the teardowns suggest, with the edges around the bottom especially liberally and firmly glued, and a very broad strip of glue on the lefthand edge - I’d heated the whole thing to 85ºC on a hot plate, but the glue, while softened, wasn’t exactly super-keen to let go. Meanwhile, the LCD seemed quite inclined to separate from the digitiser.
The only replacement screens I can find for the SM-T713/719 (which I know are compatible) are model number GH97-18966C/B/A, and ferociously expensive. Other model variants of this tab, notably the SM-T710 and SM-T715, have replacement screen assemblies available for 2/3 of the price or less; these have exactly the same spec, AMOLED, 2048x1536, 24bit with capacitive multi-touch digitiser, but they have a different model number, GH97-17679C/B/A and/or possibly GH97-17697C/B/A (the latter might be a typo in an ad).
Question is, these all look the same and have the same spec; the cover glass as a separate item is stated to be interchangeable, so the buttons and holes etc are in the same place - is the different assembly part number simply because of a different screen manufacturer or something? Would the (very much cheaper) 2048x1536 AMOLED screen for a SM-T710 fit (as in same connector) and work on a T713?
The cost of the GH97-18966 LCD is sufficiently high that it’s literally cheaper to buy a refurb or ex-demo Galaxy S2 8 in mint condition, so I’ve ordered one, but the GH97-17679 type LCD assembly is just about cheap enough to make it worth fixing the tablet I broke, and I hate to chuck stuff away…
