How to retrieve data?

My 2014 Macbook Air is completely dead and won’t turn on. The Apple store said the problem is likely water damage to the logic board. Is there any way for me to retrieve the data from it? The Apple store recommended using a toaster but I’m not sure which models would be compatible with the hard drive. Any help would be appreciated!

Someone at the Apple Store told you to use a toaster? I wouldn't do that! Heat won't help you here.

If the system was still wet I would take it apart and carefully clean out all of the spill and you would need to likely clean off the parts with distilled water and/or 85% or better isopropyl alcohol

To recover your data you’ll first need to get a case which can hold it like this one: OWC Envoy Pro Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Storage Enclosure for select Apple Flash SSDs from most 2013 to 2015 Mac Models
