Is it possible to connect MacBook Pro A1990 LCD in A1707?

Hello,

I have a MacBook Pro A1707 with a crack on the glass. I can buy cheap screen assembly from A1990. Would it be possible to connect it and if not, then why? Both screen have the same specs. Alternatively, do you know if it is possible to separate the protective glass from the display?

Thank you for your response

well, i would disagree, it is possible. but it is not entirely compatible. the. The camera would not work and you need an external monitor to be connected for the first time when it is booted. once after that you can put it in sleep mode. and start using it as usual.

So it is possible to replace A1990 with A1707. i have done that and it is working just fine.

Simple answer - No!

Apple altered a few different things which makes this not possible. The A1707 (2016 15” TB) uses a different pinout than the A1990 (2018/19 15” TB) as it offers Truetone services. So swapping the full assembly is not possible.

As to taking the display apart to swap out the LCD panel alone sadly that’s not possible either. The design is setup in such away its not really possible.

I would focus your questions and anger at Apple as we don’t control things. We just get to clean up the mess!

Thank you very much for your reply. Would it be possible to separate the broken glass from the undamaged display? I know they're glued together, but I've seen videos on the internet of glass peeling off an iPad Pro. But I didn't find any tutorial about the MacBook.

@Andrej Pracovný účet - The iPad has a digitizer (touch scrren) which is what you are seeing being removed. No digitizer on Mac's.

But, if you are curious try taking your broken screen apart and try taking the sandwich apart and let us know (post a few pics)
