Laptop powers on, then immediately off, then loops.

I have a background in computers but after trying every trick in the book I can’t seem to solve this problem. After replacing the power connector and upgrading the RAM, the laptop powers up for one second and then shuts off. It will loop and continue to do this until I unplug the charger.

I’ve checked every connector, replaced the CMOS battery, replaced the charger, replaced the battery, tried swapping the old parts back in, nothing seems to work. I’ve tried a hard reset as well multiple times with no luck.

All I get is a power-button light and a click/light from the optical drive and then it’s off and on again and again.

What could be the problem/solution?

I’m starting to wonder if the motherboard is cooked.

Try to unplug battery, charger and RAM and CMOS battery, keep the power button pressed for 20 seconds, plug ONLY charger and see if it beeps, with no RAM installed it should beep. Seems similar as an no-post issue I think.

That’s a good point; I haven’t tried booting it up without the CMOS battery or RAM, I’ll give that a shot tomorrow and see if I get any results!

I tried powering up the laptop without the cmos battery or ram installed with no results, no beeping or any change whatsoever. After putting the whole laptop back together the charging light now comes on for a brief moment before the laptop starts powering on and off instantly over and over again.

Then it might be an short circuit on the motherboard, maybe you touched something and loosed connection betwen motherboard and/or it’s components. My advice would be taking it to an local store for further inspection.
