Why does my screen look like this?

My display looked perfect, but the power button was malfunctioning and the battery life was poor. I carefully followed the iFixit guides after buying the parts here. I replaced the battery, flex cable, installed new speaker meshes, installed the display, and when I turned it back on, it looked like this. The screen is not broken in anyway, but I did use 70% isopropyl to clean the glue from the edge of the display. Could that have caused this? I just don’t understand.

So it appears the OLED on the device is damaged, Generally, metal and circuit boards don’t have a problem with adhesive remover, but you should be cautious around display components (especially the LCD or OLED backing behind a screen), plastics, and, obviously, anything that is glued together that you want to stay glued together. curdisity of an artical by Kevin Purdy https://www.ifixit.com/News/36877/ask-if...

Yes, I'm quite sure now what I'm seeing is water damage from using 70% IPA and getting way too much of it in the sensitive ribbon cables of the display. New screen ordered. :( Thanks, Zach!

I just did a battery replacement for my pixel 2 xl today using the ifixit guide and I have exactly the same issue. I think in my case it’s because of the heating tool that I used from ifixit (the one you use in microwave oven). I applied it on the right side while removing the screen and probably that caused the issue.

Is the screen done for good now?

I did not use any heat when removing my screen. What percentage of IPA did you use? That's what I believe my issue was - I used 70% and used too much when cleaning the bottom of the inside of the screen. I believe your display is toast. Sorry, friend.

I actually didn't use any alcohol for this repair. I did it only with the heating tool.

Can you suggest any good sources for a replacement screen? I saw your comment earlier that you've ordered a new screen

tarafından

@jtrizzo I don't think it's the alcohol. I didn't use any either. Ruined 2 screens, with the same exact lines that you guys have. I think it's the pins on the connectors when we are trying to push them back in.

@srinivas bharathwaj i think it's the sensitive pins on the 2 xl screen flex cable. check out this link Horizontal lines across screen and no touch after phone repair

Just ruined two screens like this (Pixel 2 XL). Both were working perfect before removal and both look exactly like this upon booting up. No isopropyl used to remove, just a little bit of heat (not a lot). I read in another thread that the little pins on the connectors on the flex cables are super sensitive, so I’m thinking the damage happened while removing the cable or while putting it on. We all know how hard it is to get the cable in the exact place on the first push…so I’m thinking the little bit of pushing and moving around ruined it. It has to be that. I want to know if I can somehow repair the pins or replace them.

I did a battery replacement and have the same issue.

However, I do not thing it is the pin being damaged.

I carefully inspected the pins with a microscope. There is nothing wrong with any pins. My LCD flex cable was pinch a little bit though. I can concluded that it is either the LCD flex cable or the stress from pulling the screen up when trying to remove it damaged the screen. The probability goes to stress from pulling the screen as there is where most people pull on the right side.

I can conclude that it is the pinch on the cable. I ruined 3 screens and I can see there is a pinch on all 3.

In China, you can send the screen to them and they can replace the flex cable with a machine. But in North America, you will have to replace the screen altogether.

Hello,

when installing 2 new LCD panels, the display looks like this.

What could be the reason?
