Why can’t I boot into windows with a new ssd

Hello, I’m trying to upgrade my grandmas HDD with an SSD and whenever I try to boot, it takes me straight to the bios/uefi . Am I doing something wrong? I have windows already pre installed and if you were wondering what the ssd is, it’s an 860 Evo 1TB. Please get back to me as soon as possible as I’d like to get it running it’s best.

@aactech as a Windows guru, what do you suggest?

Hi @dabadabadokio ,

When in BIOS does it show that the SSD has been detected?

If not check the SSD connection to the motherboard.

Did you make the SSD bootable when you installed the OS on it?

tarafından

I am not sure how to get to the boot options since I’m more familiar with desktop bios rather than laptop bios

Hi Noah,

You stated ". . . it takes me straight to the bios/uefi " so you are already there.

Hi Noah,

You stated ". . . it takes me straight to the bios/uefi " so you are already there. If still puzzled download the manual:

https://www.asus.com/supportonly/Q551LN/...

Another thought. How did you clone your grandma's HDD to the SSD? This is very important. The easiest with the Samsung Evo is to just use their utility:

https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/mi...

Look for "Consumers' Data Migration Software v4.0

You might also download the instructions for it.

You also say you have Windows preinstalled. . . where? On her old drive and it boots fine?

If that is the case then Samsung’s “Data Migration Software v4.0” will solve all your problem.

Let us know how it goes.

Does the SSD have an OS installed? If not, that’s typical with Asus laptops if it can’t find an operating system - although some do boot to a no bootable devices screen.

Put a USB stick in the machine with the correct OS you want to install, and it should boot into that. If it doesn't, the page where you save or discard changes usually has a one-time boot menu as well as a dedicated function key.
