Cannot turn on 2018 15" Touchbar MacBook Pro

Hi there.

  1. Checked USB C adaptor and cable, it works.
  2. When plugging power into Macbook, there is no charging sound.
  3. Pressing power button does not work.
  4. SMC reset does nothing.

Macbook still does not turn on, Touchbar does not lit up, screen does not turn on, fans does not turn on, Trackpad is not clickable. Not sure what else to try.

Thanks.

Do you still have warranty coverage (EU - two years)

Did you get AppleCare+ service contract? That extends the coverage.

Hi Dan, sure.

* Don’t know what lead up to the failure. Used the MacBook yesterday, closed the lid. Opened the lid today and was dead.

* No Liquid spills.

* Was rested on a dry table

* No drops

* Using the original USB charger, plugged the charger in my other devices then it works.

* I tried a 3rd party USB C charger, nothing happens.

* No I don’t have a power meter to test.

I’m going to contact Apple tomorrow to find out if I still have a warranty. Think here in South Africa it is only one year. I don’t have Apple Care as all my devices always lasted for a long time! So thought maybe this time I don’t need it… Just my luck.

Will keep this thread updated when I find the issue.

The official report from Apple Auth repair centre. “NO POWER - LOGIC BOARD FAULTY - DID SMC RESET, MINIMAL CONFIGURATION ON LOGIC BOARD THE ISSUE STILL PERSIST” “We have determined that your unit has been affected due to component failure”

Dead systems are the hardest to diagnose as there just isn’t any clues to aim you one direction or another.

  • Can you give us some back ground on what lead up to the systems failure.
  • Did you have a liquid spill into he keyboard or touchpad?
  • Did you sit the system down on a wet surface?
  • Did you drop the system?
  • Are you using the original charger and USB-C cable that came with it?
  • Did you try a second charger?
  • Do you have a USB-C Power meter to see what the charger is doing?

Maybe they can help us aim what needs to be looked at.

It might be best to get your system to Apple to see what they say.
