Will device boot with no battery?

Hey, i was taking a look at a phone for someone who said it wont charge or turn on.

When plugged in a lighting bolt in a circle appears but no battery percentage. i took apart the phone and disconnected the battery then plugged in the charger and same thing

Does this mean the battery is the problem? The device in theory should boot without one while plugged in like a laptop.

Would this mean the issue is software and not hardware since the charging port is working.

Austin Sidman this “ i took apart the phone and disconnected the battery then plugged in the charger and same thing. Lighting bolt in a circle with no battery percentage” makes the battery the prime suspect. Replace the battery then re-evaluate. There are multiple other board level hardware issues that could cause this but start in an orderly fashion so as to not try to change/repair parts that don’t need to be replaced/fixed.

It could be software related, but to me it rather sounds like a problem with the part of the circuit that charges the phone (or the battery itself).

It is with some phones possible to boot without a battery depending on the amount of power the phone consumes, and the chargers ability to provide this power.

it can work with some devices or with some ways for example with USB, sun energy, or you can use it when you power off it
