I own a late 2009 iMac Intel 27" EMC 2374.
Since a few months now, the right lower part of the screen turns to be darker than the left side of the display (see picture).
Is this issue a backlight and/or inverter one ?

Ouch! The LED backlight circuit has a problem! This could be the 27” iMac 27" LED Backlight Board Where one of the channels failed. It could be the cable to the display assembly, or it could be the LED backlight bar within the display assembly its self.
You’ll need to use a multimeter to check the resistance of the backlight cable. I often find the connector on the LED strip breaks down from heat

Replacing the backlight board should be the better and easiest option for me.
(replacing the display assembly would be a too expense option!)
My iMac being the 2374 model (core i5), I'm assuming that this doesn't make any difference with a backlight board for model 2309.
Furthermore, is it easy to find and replace the cable to the display assembly ?

I would test the LED Backlight Board before I would replace it. As well as check continuity of the LED Backlight strip.
Dan, I'm not sure to properly acknowledge how to test the LED backlight board. Would you mean checking the board to detect damaged caps or circuitry ?

I apologize for being so long before reporting the next step of my issue.
I managed to get hand on a second hand LED Backlight board, and, after replacing it (thanks to the following iFixit tutorial : https://fr.ifixit.com/Tutoriel/iMac+Inte...) this fixed my issue !
