My wife's Versa 2 had the same fault...button not stuck, moving, but having no effect. After trying all the suggested online cleaning fixes with no success, I went ahead and removed the screen using a razor blade to have a good look inside. The central operating pin of the left button had pierced the switch pad of the tiny circuit board behind. I could still make the switch work by levering on the pad edges. I managed to repair by cutting a thin rectangular metal shim (from the same blade used to open the watch) of correct width to drop in between the button pin and the switch pad. Button then worked once more as the shim spread out the contact area across the pad. I glued the screen back on with contact adhesive after removing all the old residue. An almost free fix, and should last some time.

Wow! She's lucky to have your expertise. I don't think I have the precision to pull off a procedure like that!!
Haha thanks Rachel, but not really all that skilled. The razor blade steel was so thin it cut easily with strong scissors, so it was just a miniature fitting job. Must admit I struggled to see parts without the aid of a jeweller's eyeglass...my bifocals weren't up to it :)
Amazing! Thank you for this tip and photos! I’m back in business!
thank you for this. My wife's watch had exactly the same problem, and I followed your instructions and it is now working again!
Hey Ray! This helped me a lot too! Just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing this. Was thinking of so many ideas and scouring the Internet for others.. yours actually helped for me! My versa 2 isn’t perfect but it’ll do now 👍
I just got my button to work. I soaked the watch in distilled water and then used the bristles of a soft toothbrush to poke into the teeny opening around the sides of the button. My guess is that dead skin and soap and dust get in there to gum it up. It took a few times, but it worked! Good luck!

You put the eletric part of the watch in water? I just want to clarify, I seem to have the same issue!
I never even wear my watch in the shower. I think submerging it in water to soak would give me too much anxiety. I definitely need to figure out a way to fix this issue, but I am not sure it can be soaking.
