Damaged LCD connector on the logic board

The LCD connector was damaged on the logic board when attempting to reconnect the new LCD/digitizer on the iPod Touch 4th Generation. I may have found someone that can do the intricate soldering, but I need to locate the part. Do you have a resource for this repair or at the very least, the part?

@marktz, see if you can contact user hectordtruong on the "User" list. He is the resident expert on logic board repair :-) and apparently does a great job. Hope this helps.

I found the iPod Touch 4th Generation LCD connector replacement part (requires soldering skills) for the logic board at Global Direct Parts. However, they are wholesale only and do not sell to individuals.

NOTE:

The replacement for the digitizer connector is also available from Global Direct Parts. The digitizer connector is on the opposite side of the logic board from the LCD connector.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:

This is not a job for the inexperienced, nor the faint of heart. If you do decide to tackle this replacement and your mind eventually boggles at reassembly, contact an iPod repair expert - but keep in mind, they usually do not do soldering. There are several on the Internet and the average charge is $25 for the initial evaluation. THEN they will give you a quote on the repair.

I have repaired previous iPods, but found the iPod Touch 4th Generation to be very problematic. My rating for the novice would be 1 out of 10 on repair difficulty (10 being the easiest.) Unless you are already an expert, my advice would be to send the iPod Touch 4th Generation to an iPod repair expert in the first place, rather than attempt Digitizer/LCD* replacement on your own.

Hope this helps.

*Keep in mind the OEM Digitizer/LCD is ONE factory assembled part. Best not to be tempted to purchase individual LCD or Digitizer parts. In addition, the iPod experts will not accept replacement parts you send with your iPod.

hi, once u have removed the old lcd pcb connector and purchased the new one, i was thinking that for those who are inexperienced at soldering could use this tape to stick down the new adapter instead of soldering it. i haven't tried this but i'm pretty sure it'll work.

i will be attempting this fix in the next couple of days s o will keep you informed

Thank you very much for your recommendation. I had several long email conversations with this company before I initiated an order. Only to find out in the end, that the part was not in stock and would be back-ordered an undetermined amount of time. Please see my update/comments below regarding where I eventually purchased the part, and other comments about taking on the repair of the iPod 4th Generation.

Buy an LCD connector off of eBay.I don't know the melting point of the pins of motherboard connector.Maybe you could use the soldering gun to heat the pins between motherboard and LCD connector. The kind of stick them together that way so the solder iron does not connect wrong pins.Hope this helps.
