how can i retrieve the password fro a device i haven’t used in years

Try this:
- Power on or restart your iBook G4.
- At the chime, hold Command+S until you see a command prompt.
- At the prompt, type sh /etc/rc and press enter
- Type passwd [username], replacing [username] with your username on the iBook.
