this could be a few things. Your ignition switch, starter relay, or starter. Or the wiring to them or ground. You didn't post the year, and it appears things move around a bit fuse- and relay- wise in this year range. You'll need a multimeter or voltage tester to do this. Locate the starter relay (should be in the fuse box in the engine compartment) and test each plug where a prong on the relay goes in. One will have power without doing anything. If it doesn't, then locate the fuse for the starter. If it does, have someone try to start it while you test all the prongs that didn't have power until you find if another gets power while trying to start. This should show the ignition switch is doing its thing. If nothing gets power, then ignition switch likely the culprit. If it does, replace the solenoid, and go underneath to where your starter is. Have them try to start it. Check if your starter is getting voltage. If it is, starter is most likely toast. If it isn't, then the solenoid is the culprit. There might be better/easier ways to test all these but I don't know them.

You could also have a grounding issue or a bad ECM. I've experienced both with this model truck.
