Hi @nytryder26 ,

Some things to check:

i). Check in Task manager > Startup and see how many programs are being loaded on starting the laptop. Some are necessary for correct operation but a lot aren’t and what they do is use resources unnecessarily which may be better utilized elsewhere, especially if the program isn’t being used very often. A lot of 3rd party programs when first installed are installed in startup so that they open quicker when required but if you never use them it just ties up resources e.g. ram. If you don’t know what the program is for, Google the name to find out.

To disable the program from Startup, simply right click on the program in Startup and select disable and then restart the laptop and check. I suggest that if you go to do this do one at a time (if more than one) to see if it improves or causes problems. If disabling causes problems simply enable the program the same way you disabled it and then restart the laptop. Doing one at a time at least you know if there is a problem which program is the cause. Disabling a program in Startup doesn’t stop the program from being used if you click on it on the desktop or program menu etc. It will just open a bit slower than before that’s all

To get to Task Manager, right click on the Taskbar and click on the link

ii). Check in Event Viewer for any Critical, Error or Warning Events that have multiple appearances i.e. same Event ID and Source events logged. To find out what the problem may be, search online using the Event ID and Source information

To get to Event Viewer, press the Win key + x key (both together) and click on the Event Viewer link.

iii). Start the laptop in safe mode with networking and check performance. The display will look different as only generic Windows drivers are loaded, not the hardware specific ones, but you’re checking performance, not appearance. If it is better then you may have a driver problem. Check that the latest video drivers are installed as usually these can cause the most problems if they’re an older version.

In the end you may have to install an SSD if you haven’t already as these give a performance boost in comparison to a HDD
