Stuck on connect dual shock controller and press ps button screen

I tried 7 cables, the last one worked, save time and just order the correct cable, search ps4 controller charger cable, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and hassle!

i got it to work this way, put it on recovery mode by pressing the power button wait for 2 beeps, then once you see the "please insert the cable screen" unplug the power cable from the back of the ps4 then once your power it on again it should boot back to recovery mode now try to press the ps button again it should work guys

hey,I had the same problem the solution is the cable trust me its the cable its not the ps4 or the controller.go buy new ps4 cable or high quailty wire .

I don't know if have the same problem or mine is more rare but whenever I connect any controller its shows a little menu saying device not supported ive bought 3 controllers and I've tried 3 cables so what could the problem be because I've tried messaging those guys on tiktok but they don't answer at all

Yep, I am having the same problem. I do think the left USB port is bad, as only certain cables work in it, and a thumb drive I have the boot up software on lights up on the right one, but not the left one. I'm curious what PS4 people are using. I have the Star Wars special edition with the Vader logo on it. I've tried like 10 different cables, 10 different controllers. They all will show the orange soft glow light, and when I push the PS button, it blinks white, goes dark, and then eventually goes orange again. I've unplugged it, restarted, tried the two beeps start up. I've plugged the cords and controllers into other PS4s that work, and they work. It's gotta be the USB ports. That's all I can think of. And if it is, what can you do about it?

I'm going to update this post. People don't seem to understand, it is not the same issue as you with your &&^&^$^ wire has nothing to do with the wire. Not a *!&*^#% thing. &&^& off what the &&^&^$^ wire. It's not the &&^&^$^ wire.

Buy a new controller.

If you read my posts I had some major issues with the connect controller screen. Turned out to just be the cord. I had about 6 laying around and only 1 worked.

Still no working fixes available it's not the wire it's not the controller the Bluetooth chip was replaced so it's not that, the wifi antennas we're replaced that wasn't it, bought a third party device which allows controllers to connect as in wires connection but through the Bluetooth of the USB device will connect to safe boot through the device as it were wired into the console, but still won't allow me to get passed the press the PS button during startup and the console is reformatted so there's no getting past the set up screen without connecting the controller hopefully this helps people understand it's not a simple issue you'd of ran into before, it's a very weird and should of been fixed with everything tried to it. Except its not reformating changing hard drives everything you can think we've tried it, brand new OEM Controllers with brand new OEM wires not for charging for pairing.. all these little fixes are not what are issue is. Thanks for the help, but if your just going to suggest the same things over and over, maybe you should actually read the post and the comments, cause having hopes when I get an email from ifixit having someone comment and it's the same thing as your wire is meant for charging, is honestly insulting at this point with how much some of us have spend on a single console worth less than what we paid trying to solve it's issue.

It's a bad left or #1 USB port. Mines bad and can't connect controller after reset to default settings. I know my port is bad it hasn't worked for a long time. Just didn't realize Sony was simple minded enough to only allow the 1 port to start sequence after reset. #2 USB works great just system won't recognize it. So frustrating!

I’m having the same issue. Screen says, "Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable and then press the PS button." I’m using the original cables and they work on my friends PS4, so they are ok. If i boot in Safe Mode i still get the same screen message but with SAFE MODE in the top left. I can’t get past it no matter what i try. I have replaced the HDD but still everything is the same.

is there a way to buypass this screen ?

I used a cheap ps4 wired controller from amazon and it worked then reconnected the wireless controller once the ps4 was on and that works for me as its happened a few times

In case anyone hasn’t figured it out.power down the ps4 and restart it with the cable and controller already plugged in. Should work

I've tried ALL the above to get past the blue screen–Proper data cable, wired controller. Safe mode. Keyboards & mouse. Plugs in, plugs out. Turn off, Turn on. Plus all the wait, wait, waits in between.

Any new ideas??? or

How do I determine a firmware issue if NOTHING can direct me past the blue screen???

An error occurs as shown in the link above. I tested several pads and several cables, but in the end I couldn't solve it. It seems that the USB port on the main unit is broken. Is the motherboard broken?

mine JUST randomly started just now, i had the same exact problem.. and heres how it first happened:

i switched to a lower end tv, i switched the hdmi and power cords, i turned on the ps4, i tried connecting the controller but it wouldnt connect even though it charges and everything (the orange light is showing too), so i turned off the ps4 with the controller plugged in, i did 3 beeps by accident and didnt realize the ps4 was turning off, i then waited 2 or 3 mins after it officially turned off, i then did the 2 beeps going into recovery mode, i reset the controller a cpl times before unplugging the ps4, i waited a min or 2 before plugging the power cord in, turned on the ps4 again, reset my controller again a cpl times, unplugged it again waited a min or 2 (controller is plugged in this whole process), plugged it again, did the 2 beeps turning off the recovery mode, turned it off and turned it on one more time going into the blue screen, made sure the controller was charging, then i pressed the ps button and it finally randomly connected to the ps4.

im not commenting a solution, im just telling yall the story on how i got mine fixed.

P.s now i have another problem, the controller suddenly died and now it doesnt want to turn on or either charge. I tried plugging the controller into different usb plugs but it still wont charge or turn on. This happened RIGHT after i finally got past the press the ps button screen. smh. its the only controller and charging cable i got right now so i havent tried those options out yet. I just hope that it is only the charging cable. its so weird too because this controller was JUST charging, (thats how i got past the press the ps button) but its like the controller or the charging cable just randomly died. as they were working not too long ago lol idk

The only cable that worked for me was if it was PlayStation brand or someone's elce

I know this sounds a little silly. But just double checking. Is the controller a real PS4 controller and is it the correct cable you are plugging into the PS?

Have you tried charging up the controller and then connecting it wirelessly?

I’m sure i read somewhere that its an issue with one of the components on the board. If i remember i will post the link explaining the issue.

I am getting the same problem as well.

BEFORE ANYONE STATES ITS THE CABLE, ITS NOT THE CABLE I HAVE A NEW OEM DATA CABLE.

So I have tried a new data cable, doesn’t work, this is my 7 year old sons console by the way, and he has just spent £50 of his Christmas money on a new official controller, as the other 2 don’t work. But still doesn’t work. Done safe mode, and if the controller is plugged in, to either port the controller reacts to operate the chosen option. Have tried everything down to full initialisation and reloaded the os from usb, twice on both usb ports. That works fine, but the minute I then ask for fresh set up, plug the controller in (all 3) nothing but flashing white lite then orange to say charging.

Please can someone come back to me with a solution. My son is broken hearted and I can’t afford to go and buy him another console, even used. I feel I really have tried everything. And remember it’s not the data cable!

What worked for me was

I already had a cheap amazon wired controller so I plugged it in

I used that then when the ps4 came on I went into settings and told it to forget the wireless controller then used the data cable in the wireless controller to pair it to the ps4
