I've had this phone for a year now, but the problem only seem to have popped up recently. Whenever I charge it, it gets drained. Even when the phone is shut down, it still gets drained.

Apple isn't actually sending updates they always send a down grade disguised as an update around the time when they are releasing a new phone, which makes it not charge or hold a charge and slows down the system such as downloading and other software so you'll have to buy a new one.

It might be time for a battery replacement. Near-dead battery disperses energy faster than it can store it. iFixit has fantastic battery replacement guides, you should check one out for your device. No need to buy a tool pack, the guide tells you all tools you need. Good luck!
