What symptoms does your Roomba display? Usually the error one (1) means that the battery is not detected. Does your Roomba charge?

error 1 on those Roombas means that the main brushes are stalled.

try cleaning the brushes of hair and other crud, be sure to focus on the ends of the brushes.

I'm getting an error 1 and have completely taken apart the wheels, brushes, etc. and removed all the hair I could find. Still nothing. :-(

Error one (1) means your robot is on an obstacle or an uneven surface and a side wheel is stuck. If this is the case, lift your robot off the floor, place it in the center of the room, and restart the clean cycle. If this error occurred on a flat surface, check the wheels for obstructions.

Note: Use a Virtual Wall® to keep Roomba® away from problem areas.

  1. Push the wheels up and down several times and shake out any loose debris that may be trapped in the wheel well.
  2. Briskly turn both wheels by hand, and make sure they turn freely, and that each wheel exhibits the same amount of resistance.

Please visit the iRobot Store - Parts and Accessories or use an authorized retailer to order a part. If you believe you're in warranty, please contact iRobot Customer Care.

For expedited service, please have the following ready:

  • Your robot charged and with you.
  • Your robot's Serial number.
  • For warranty claims: Proof of purchase (receipt or invoice for purchase from an authorized retailer).

It is worth noting that the error codes for the Roomba 4000/400 series are different than the codes for the 500 series and up. I am guessing gunk got into the brush gearbox causing the Roomba to detect that the brush motor is drawing too much current. If not that a motherboard issue could be present =\.
