Bluetooth on a new WiFi card not working

I just installed a replacement WiFi/Bluetooth card I got from iFixit into my late-2012 27" iMac and Bluetooth is not working. WiFi works fine. Could I have installed it wrong or is it likely there is an issue with the replacement? Any troubleshooting suggestions?

What fault finding have you done? Rest Bluetooth? Re-set PRAM etc.?

I have reset PRAM and the SMC with no luck. I tried to run boot-time hardware diagnostics, but there was an error (a missing file or some such message) and it would not run.

I could not access the Bluetooth system preferences pane -- attempting to open it would timeout and say not accessible(?) -- and the menu bar icon was greyed out and had a diagonal slash across it. From the menu bar I could "turn bluetooth on", but that did nothing apparent.

In order to be able to access my BT keyboard and trackpad (I only have a rather clunky PC-style wired keyboard which I despise) I have since plugged in an old Bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle and that works. I have not yet tried rebooting with the dongle to see if I have access to the keyboard and trackpad during startup.

Within the finder, click the menu icon while holding the Option key do you see any of the top four entries with values?

I will need to test this later, as I currently have the BT dongle plugged in and so it is displaying info related to the dongle and not the internal WiFi/BT card. I did do this before I added the dongle, and from memory Name and Address were blank and the Version was v0 c0.

@Robbin Johnson - A dongle won't show the values, I'm looking at the internal board here.

I removed the dongle. None of my BT devices are now connected. When I do the Option-Click (using a wired mouse), it displays:

Discoverable: Off

Name: <my host name>

Address: <what appears to be a valid address>

Version: v8718 c4096

When I try to open System Preferences > Bluetooth I get the error:

Preferences Error

Could not load Bluetooth preference pane.

(Note that the same info is displayed when I Option-Click the menu bar item once the dongle is reconnected and I can once again use my BT devices)

@Robbin Johnson - Then you have a bad AirPort board or one that's not compatible.

Thanks! I will contact iFixit about replacing the board.
