MBP screen and apple logo does not work, but external display does

Hi, I have MBP mid 2014 which I recently dropped at 1 foot-high. My screen doesnt have any noticeable crack, no image when I point a light onto it, and apple logo behind does not light up.

External Display does however, and I've tried all the easy solutions such as resetting nvram, smc, and reinstalling mac os. No message about defunct screen too when I ran diagnostics.

It seems that I my mac recognizes still recognizes the retina display because when I go to display settings, there are two windows open which is retina display and my samsung tv.

I ordered a screwdriver set and it's on it's way. I just wanna know if I wrecked my display for good or its just a case of unplugged display ribbon. Thanks.

@storml & @hellomacos - If there is no backlight and using a flashlight shining through the cover white logo to emulate a backlight so you can see if the display is even offering an image (faintly). And as you proved the logic boards GPU logic is working connecting the external display. Then the display assembly its self and/or the combined data power LVDS cable is damaged.

You'll need to follow this guide to at least take the display off to replace the cable or replace the display its self: MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Mid 2014 Display Assembly Replacement

Thanks for the input, this is really disheartening. Is there even a slight possibility of the LVDS cable just needing to be reattached?

tarafından

@storml - Until you open the system to inspect things its a possibility! But not likely. More likely the cable or the display its self is damaged.

tarafından

Hopefully not haha, if it's just the cable itself then maybe it won't cost as much. Thanks for the reply.

Hi @danj , it seems that the damage is in fact on the display assembly. I opened up the back cover, reseated the LVDS cable on the upper right but it still didn't work.

@storml

Did you do the one under the clutch cover?

Hi

I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 15inch and iv noticed the screen plays up if the device is dropped (mine has a bad display though)

I fix this issue by reseating the connector on the board and from under the clutch cover (black bit at the bottom of the screen) and after that my issue goes away

Hopefully this helps

Thanks:-)

I plan to do this after I receive my screwdrivers.

@storml

That’s good!

If it doesn’t work try the one under the clutch cover that what I find works:-)

tarafından

@hellomacos Hi, i just want to ask, when yours broke, can you not see any image whatsoever when you point a light onto your screen?

tarafından

@storml

I could see a image but mine was flickering in and out like mad!

I have had success simply unplugging and reconnecting but I do know from experience that problems with these displays are easily solved:-)
