The internal SD card contacts might be damaged

I have owned this camera for several years. It was bought new and used as a back-up for EOS 5D. I lent it to my partner but when I try to use it now it reports 'Memory Card Error. I know there is nothing wrong with the card as works fine in other applications (audio etc.). I think she might have used some sort of adapter.
