Repair information for printers made by Canon.

Print Head will not move

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 9500 Mark II. It has been in storage for about 5 years. I set it up and the amber and blue light flashes. The amber light only flashes once. When I open the cover the print head does not move to the center. It has print cartridges that were stored in it. I unplugged it and tried to manually move the print head but it will not budge. I have not hooked it up to my printer yet as I wanted to make sure everything was good to go first.

Hi @rockngin,

Are you experienced with disassembly and reassembly, and do you have extra time to get into it? These printers can be a bit tricky to get into, but it's fully possible.

It sounds like there is something blocking the mechanical movement inside, either a slipping belt (unlikely as you tried to move it manually) or more likely a blocked or gummed up linkage / gear.

If the printer has been printing continuously for a long time, the Print Head Holder may not move to the center since the Print Head may overheat. Opening the Top Cover while printing moves the Print Head Holder to the right. Close the Top Cover, and reopen it after printing finishes.

Will
