Try regular AA batteries and be sure the battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion preventing electrical connections.

Thank you for your advice F Dryer. I have cleaned the terminals, and have tried both new normal AA and rechargeable batteries, but no response.

Unfortunately, new batteries and clean terminals leaves you to either try diy disassembly to determine failure or seek professional repair. There may be YouTube videos showing disassembly and other ideas but at your own risk.
