How do I get the nintendo 64 to work on modern TV?

I have a Nintendo 64 which is in perfect working order but cant seem to get a picture on my Samsung plasma tv and i have tried searching the channel too. Do i need to purchase a different cable or anything?

James Bryant, what cable are you using? The WII cable would work as well as an NES AV/Component cable. Your TV probably has the RCA or S video in, insert the cable into those, make sure that you select the right video source on your TV. Let us know what TV you have in case it should still not work.

You should be able to use the standard Nintendo RCA cables (such as used by the Wii and also the SNES). If you get no video when using this the problem may lie with the console or possibly the game. Any dust or wear on the contacts will cause the system to give no video output at all.

The Wii video cables are incompatible with the N64 due to a different connector. Only the SNES, N64, and GameCube can interchange cables.

I'm not exactly sure what the issue is (if your sound is getting through, the TV must not support that resolution) but this should fix it. Or, if your TV has a VGA input an A/V to vga also works.

I have the same problem, except that my gamecube doesn't work with my A/V receiver. It works when I plug it into my TV, though. If your TV has the setting for it, change your resolution to 680P or 480P. Hope this helped!

Maybe try different video cables. I'd try RF to see if that fixes your issue. Most smart TV's have an RF port on them. Had an identical issue, Hope this helps.
